BCCI Secretary Jay Shah Updates on Shami’s Rehabilitation Progress
BCCI Secretary Jay Shah announced that a decision on pacer Mohammed Shami‘s participation in the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy will depend on a report from the National Cricket Academy (NCA). Shami is recovering from an ankle injury sustained during the ODI World Cup last November. He is currently in the final stages of rehabilitation at the NCA in Bengaluru, having resumed bowling last month and gradually increasing his workload without pain.
Chief selector Ajit Agarkar previously indicated that Shami’s goal is to return for the first Test against Bangladesh, starting on September 19 in Chennai. Shami boasts a strong Test record in Australia, with 31 wickets in eight matches at an average of 32.16, including two five-wicket hauls.
Additionally, Shah confirmed that former India batsman VVS Laxman will continue as the head of the NCA, with his contract set to expire in September after being appointed in December 2021.
